Tried + True Affordable Makeup Brands I Actually Trust
I love a good splurge. I really do.
Some high-end products are absolutely worth it, and I will never pretend they are not.
But I also know I don’t want to spend $25-$60 every time I need a new foundation, primer, mascara, shadow, or lip product.
Affordable does not always mean dupe, and dupe does not always mean better. These are just the brands that keep proving you can get a really good product without spending prestige money every time.
These are the affordable beauty brands I keep coming back to. Not because every single product is perfect, but because these are the brands and products I keep coming back to and have been some of my FAVORITE drugstore finds and affordable alternatives.

Truly Yours Dark Circle Concealer
Setting spray or primer, if available through a reliable retailer

my thoughts:
e.l.f.
If we are talking affordable beauty brands that know what they are doing, e.l.f. is at the top of that list.
They are one of the first brands I check when I want to try a new primer, setting spray, concealer, or viral-style product without spending high-end money first.
Some e.l.f. products feel like true dupes, and some are just good products on their own. Either way, I feel like they understand the assignment more often than not.
what I usually look for from e.l.f.:
Primers
Concealers
Setting sprays
Everyday basics
Affordable versions of viral makeup trends
my take:
e.l.f. is one of those brands where I do not expect every product to be life-changing, but I do expect to find something worth trying. They make it really easy to experiment without feeling like you just wasted your whole beauty budget.
essence
Essence is one of those brands that still surprises me because the prices are so low, but some of the products are genuinely so good.
If you are newer to makeup, testing out different products, or just do not want to spend a lot on mascara, brows, blush, or lip products, Essence is a good place to start.
Their mascaras especially have had a chokehold on the internet for years, and honestly, I get it.
what I usually look for from Essence:
Mascara
Brow products
Blush
Lip liners
Everyday eye products
my take:
Essence is perfect when you want to try something new, but you do not want to spend $25 to find out if you even like that kind of product.
milani
Milani feels like one of the more polished affordable brands to me.
It still has drugstore pricing, but some of the products feel a little more elevated than basic drugstore makeup. Their complexion products, blushes, bronzers, and glow products are usually what catch my attention first.
Milani is also one of the brands I look at when I want something that gives more of a high-end makeup feel without the high-end price.
what I usually look for from Milani:
Foundation
Cream-to-powder products
Blush
Bronzer
Face oils and glow products
my take:
Milani is not always the cheapest affordable brand, but when they get it right, they really get it right. This is one of the brands I trust more for face products.
l’oréal
L’Oréal is one of those classic drugstore brands that I think people forget about because it is not always the trendiest one on TikTok.
But when it comes to complexion, mascara, and more mature-skin-friendly products, L’Oréal is still very much worth looking at.
I especially like L’Oréal when I am trying to find something that feels a little more practical. Not necessarily the most viral. Not always the cutest packaging. Just a product that works.
what I usually look for from L’Oréal:
Foundation
Tinted balms
Mature-skin-friendly products
Mascara
Everyday complexion products
my take:
L’Oréal is the brand I check when I want something dependable. Especially if a viral product sounds good, but I know my skin may need something softer, smoother, or more wearable.
flower beauty
Flower Beauty is such a pretty affordable brand, and I feel like it does not always get the attention it deserves.
The packaging, the formulas, and the overall vibe feel more elevated than a lot of drugstore makeup. It is one of those brands where I do not just think “affordable.” I think “this could actually sit next to my more expensive products and not feel out of place.”
I have found some really good products from Flower Beauty, especially for brows, complexion, glow, and setting products.
what I usually look for from Flower Beauty:
Brow products
Powder
Setting spray
Lip products
Glow products
Soft glam everyday makeup
my take:
Flower Beauty is one of my favorite affordable brands when I want something that still feels pretty and a little more high-end.
NYX
NYX has been around forever, and there is a reason people still keep going back to it.
For me, NYX is especially good for brow products, liners, lip products, primers, and little detail products that can get weirdly expensive from high-end brands.
Not every NYX product is my favorite, but when I need a specific makeup staple at an affordable price, NYX is usually one of the first brands I check.
what I usually look for from NYX:
Brow pencils
Lip liners
Lip products
Primers
Eyeliner
my take:
NYX is one of those reliable drugstore brands that usually has an option for whatever you are looking for. Some products are older favorites, some come and go, but I always keep an eye on them.
maybelline
Maybelline is another classic drugstore brand that has had so many good products over the years.
Their concealers, mascaras, foundations, and long-wear lip products are usually what I pay attention to most. Maybelline may not always feel as “new and exciting” as some of the trendier brands, but they have a lot of solid everyday products.
what I usually look for from Maybelline:
Concealer
Mascara
Long-wear lip products
Foundation
Everyday drugstore staples
my take:
Maybelline is one of those brands I trust for the basics. If you need something affordable, easy to find, and usually pretty reliable, it is worth checking.
wet n wild
Do not sleep on Wet n Wild.
Is every product perfect? No. But some of their products are shockingly good for the price.
Wet n Wild is one of those brands I love for fun finds, mascaras, highlighters, setting products, and those random budget products that end up being way better than expected.
what I usually look for from Wet n Wild:
Highlighter
Setting powder
Lip or eye pencils
Budget-friendly finds
Fun makeup products
my take:
Wet n Wild is the brand that reminds me affordable makeup can still be really good. Sometimes you spend less than $10 and end up finding something you actually keep using.
CoverGirl
CoverGirl is not always the first brand I run to for trendy makeup, but it has some really good options, especially for complexion.
I especially like looking at CoverGirl when someone wants something more forgiving for dry skin, mature skin, fine lines, or everyday wear.
Sometimes the best product is not the one with the most hype. Sometimes it is the one that actually works better for your skin.
what I usually look for from CoverGirl:
Mature-skin-friendly foundation
Dry-skin-friendly products
Everyday complexion
Mascara
Simple makeup staples
my take:
CoverGirl is practical. And honestly, practical is underrated when it comes to foundation and skin products.
L.A. Girl + L.A. Colors
I like these brands for affordable, fun, experimental products.
This is where I would look for budget palettes, glosses, lashes, liners, or products you want to try without spending a lot. I do not expect every single product to feel high-end, but I have definitely found some good ones.
what I usually look for:
Palettes
Lip gloss
Lashes
Liners
Fun budget finds
my take:
These are good brands when you want to play with makeup, try a new color, or find something super affordable. Just know that some products will be hits, and some will be a “well, at least it was cheap” moment.
UCANBE
UCANBE is one of those Amazon brands that surprised me.
I do not automatically trust every random affordable beauty product online, so I like to test these a little more carefully. But I have tried some UCANBE products that were way better than I expected, especially for the price.
what I usually look for:
Setting sprays
Palettes
Amazon beauty finds
Affordable makeup experiments
my take:
UCANBE is more of a “hidden gem” brand for me. I would not say every product is a must-have, but when one works, it can be really good for the price.
more affordable brands I keep an eye on
These are not always my first stop, but I still think they are worth mentioning.
Physicians Formula
Good for bronzers, glow products, and more classic drugstore makeup.
ColourPop
Not exactly drugstore, but still affordable. I usually look at ColourPop for palettes, blushes, lip products, and trendy colors.
JOAH Beauty
A good brand to watch if you like affordable makeup with a slightly K-beauty-inspired feel.
final thoughts
Affordable does not always mean better.
And a dupe does not always mean the high-end product is not worth it.
Sometimes the splurge really is the better product. Sometimes the affordable version gets you close enough. And sometimes the affordable product is so good that I do not even feel like I am settling.
That is why I like testing both.
These are the affordable beauty brands I keep coming back to because they have given me some of my favorite finds over the years. If you are building your makeup bag, trying to save money, or just want to know where to start, these are the brands I would check first.
My top affordable brands to try first?
e.l.f., Essence, Milani, L’Oréal, Flower Beauty, NYX, Maybelline, and Wet n Wild.
Start there, then branch out once you know what kinds of products your skin and makeup routine actually love.
